Our Founding Story

Early Life in Yeola

Born on June 2, 1970, in Yeola, Nashik District, Balkrishna Kapse came from a humble background. Supporting his family, he worked alongside his parents in agriculture and construction. His challenging upbringing shaped his perseverance and work ethic.

Early Work and Self-Improvement

During this decade, Kapse worked as a daily wage laborer in sugarcane fields and took on various side jobs to support his family while continuing his self-education. His resilience laid the foundation for future success in Paithani weaving.

Learning the Craft

Kapse began his career as an assistant at the Soni Paithani shop in Yeola, where he gained in-depth industry knowledge, from patterns to customer preferences. This hands-on experience was vital for understanding the Paithani trade intricacies.

Launch of Independent Business

Kapse launched his Paithani production and sales in a small rented shop. By 2003, his business outgrew the space, and he expanded into a larger 1,000 sq. ft. location, marking a pivotal step in his growth trajectory.

Establishing Kapse Paithani Park

Recognizing the importance of cultural preservation, he developed Kapse Paithani Park, a dedicated space in Yeola to showcase traditional Paithani weaving while providing employment to rural artisans. This included weaving facilities, a showroom, and residential quarters for artisans.

Expanding for Conservation and Commerce

The Kapse Paithani Park Complex now includes a 39,000 sq. ft. production department, capable of accommodating 80 handlooms per floor, with expansion plans underway. In addition, the foundation built staff quarters and a large showroom, strengthening local weaving communities and preserving Paithani craftsmanship for future generations.
